Holroyd Precision Ltd has a fantastic opportunity for a software/controls expert to manage a team of five experienced software/controls engineers. This senior position is well suited to a person who enjoys taking the lead and being influential in the development of software and CNC technology.Working for a world leader in the manufacture of grinding, milling and friction stir welder machines, you will lead the software department in the development and delivery of machine software/CNC/PLC solutions for new and existing machines. This position offers a real opportunity to work closely with other motivated managers in designing cutting edge capability for special purpose machinery.The role:

  • Provide the necessary organisational support and management to ensure all CNC and software functions work in harmony and in the interests of the business.
  • Provide technical leadership, management, and guidance to the software team. Maintain excellent engineering information systems including a strong software revision / version control database.
  • Work closely with sales, engineering, and NPD to implement and successfully deliver contracts in accordance with specification and agreed timescales.
  • Provide technical support to our global customers promptly, fostering excellent customer relations by ensuring their machines are returned to manufacturing in good time.
  • Take responsibility for departmental training, continuous personal development, and succession planning to ensure that the 'knowledge security' of the business is preserved and protected.
  • Drive development of software and internal procedures to ensure Holroyd remain at the forefront of machine tool manufacture.

The Person:

  • Understanding of current software languages (particularly Fanuc and Siemens), CNC and PLC technologies, and be familiar with specialist design tools such as CAD/CAM and EPlan.
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuit design, software, coding protocols and CE compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills, able to lead and motivate others effectively.
  • Good time management, presentation and organization skills, able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of Safety of machinery including relevant standards, European Machinery Directive, and CE Compliance
  • A good understanding the MS Office suite (inc MS Project) and MRP/ERP systems.

Experience and Qualifications:At a minimum qualified to degree level with 2 years' experience in the management of others.Experience and knowledge of:

  • Siemens TIA portal
  • PLC programming experience (Ideally also higher-level NC programming knowledge)
  • Control system commissioning
  • Full software life cycle design and documentation, including version and release control
  • Robotics
  • Electrical engineering
  • Realistic coding experience of traditional programming languages and platforms, including at least some of: C/C++, C#, Microsoft Windows.

Ideally experience of one or more of:

  • Software development using Fortran: legacy PC technology and operating systems, such has MSDOS
  • Engineering mathematics
  • Multi axis grinding/milling machinery
  • Software design patterns
  • Posix / Linux / QNX operating systems
  • Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Borland Embarcadero
  • Fanuc control systems
  • Ladder logic
  • Statement List, SCL, Function block and Visual Basic Script
