Service Care Solutions are looking for a Cyber Security Practitioner to work in Exeter. The successful candidate will operate as Technical Expert for Microsoft technologies within what is known as the Security Compliance team. They will be the focal point for technical expertise within the team and have day-to-day responsibility for ensuring work within the team is carried out to a high technical standard that aligns with the processes already in place.
The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating, and remediating issues with the automated patching processes as well as specific vulnerabilities. They will use their expert knowledge to identify and implement custom configuration changes to the environment that increase the organisations security posture. As requirements arise the successful candidate will be expected to research, develop, and mplement novel solutions to problems. Most of the solutions will not be off-the-shelf, and as such it a very good standard of PowerShell scripting is required.Use of own knowledge and independent knowledge gathering is expected, utilising resources such as the Internet and colleagues with greater experience/exposure. The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the monitoring of cyber security intelligence sources and then assessing risk and escalating if required.
As subject matter expert for MECM/SCCM and Active Directory within the team, the successful candidate will be expected to mentor colleagues on both a planned and ad-hoc basis. This will also be true for many other areas such as PowerShell, troubleshooting Windows OS, root cause analysis, and resolution.
Essential Criteria Understanding of Cyber Essentials or equivalent security scheme. Understanding of the practical application of the principal of least privilege Deep understanding of patching cycles, testing, implications of rapid patching etc. Understanding of the practical implementation of Defender Secure Score (or similar) security recommendations SME experience of Active Directory SME experience of SCCM Deep understanding of Application Deployment, patching, licensing, removal Demonstrable practical knowledge of PowerShell is expected. Examples of the use of PowerShell to automate or expedite fixes, along with other forms of automation to deliver bespoke solutions. Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Server and Workstation covering the last 10 years of OS versions Demonstrable autonomy, often working through tasks where the desired outcome is known, but the technological solution is not - using experience and research to evaluate, recommend, and implement long-lasting and efficient solutions Ability to knowledge-share and upskill colleagues to ensure more people can support more of the systems around them - combatting silos and human resource single points of failure. Where complex or bespoke responses to needs have been implemented, ensure that these are well-understood to avoid increased risk when failure occurs after key technical staff have moved on. (Weekly Patching reboot script and Dell Command Update automation script and deployment are examples of these areas) In all areas the candidate should be able to work from first principles - enabling them to operate effectively in specific products or solutions they may not have experienced.
